The power of the bond between an animal and its owner is mysterious.
Even when we think that animals can’t understand us, they often surprise us with an amazing response.
This story of a farmer and his horse is a perfect example of this.

A Polish farmer, Marek Slodkowski, has been raising horses on his pasture for over 13 years.
Then one day, one of his horses named Freedom fell into a maintenance pit when the floorboards couldn’t support her weight.
When Slodkowski found Freedom trapped in this pit, he rushed to rescue his horse.
First, Slodkowski quickly filled up the pit with hay; however, this didn’t provide enough support for Freedom to step out of the pit.
Realizing that he couldn’t do this alone, Slodkowski then called the fire department for help.

When the crew arrived, they tried to lift Freedom out using several hoses. Even though ten men joined to rescue Freedom, this plan didn’t work either.
These hoses were simply too weak. In the mean time, it was clear that Freedom was giving up. Because of the particular shape of this pit, it seemed as though Freedom would not be able to get out. Everyone ran out of ideas. Noticing how Freedom was getting exhausted, Slodkowski tried to encourage Freedom by gently stroking her mane.
“Don’t die. Don’t die,” repeated Slodkowski.
Then, a miracle happened. Freedom suddenly got back up on her feet after hours of struggle.

When the firemen saw what Freedom was doing, they tried to help her. Using the hoses, they scooted her behind – giving her the push that she needed.
Freedom, then, hopped up.
Honestly, everyone didn’t think that Freedom would make it out alive. Needless to say, they were all stunned. It was as though Freedom heard Slodkowski’s comforting words, and tried one last time to get out of the pit.
