A kindhearted man adopted five siblings so that they can be raised together.
The kids who were all too innocent to understand what’s going on in their lives included Michaela, 1, Major, 2, Nakia, 3, Jamel, 4, and Zendaya, 5.
“I was fighting to keep back the tears,” Lamont told GMA. “Every day I think about it, my eyes swell up. All that we endured to make this happen, it was something.”
Lamont who has fostered 30 kids by now hadn’t even thought about bringing up other people’s children.
He randomly began the practice in 2000 to help out some of his friends. “In the beginning, I was helping out some friends,” he said.
“They had lost their child to the system. I went on and got certified and became a foster parent. I haven’t stopped since.”
Lamont also disclosed that the father of these newly adopted five children was also brought up by him.
The siblings, who were all under the age of five, were divided into four families and had been living for one and a half years in four different cities.
It means they hadn’t been in contact with one another for more than a year.
But now they are together, thanks to Lamont who gathered them all to get their permanent legal responsibility two years ago. He finally became able to declare them his own.
Speaking to NBC affiliate WGRZ, Lamont said: “I fought for close to two-and-a-half years just to be able to get them together, and we won, we got it.
“I wanted to be the difference, I wanted to make a difference by being a difference for these youth.”
The adopted children took no time to bond with Lamont’s biological kids, LaMonica and Anthony.
Lamont, who was raising seven children including his two biological children, will now have to parent 12 kids in total.
“Lamont never turned [a child] away,” said Michael, the first kid fostered by Lamont, who is now 27 years old. “They either aged out or went back home to their own families.”
Speaking of how he feels by bringing up those who don’t have any guardian, Lamont said: “They bring new energy to me.”
He said his vast family and its expansion gives him a notion as if he has “come out of retirement.”
“They’re lovable kids, very affectionate,” Lamont said about the recent adoption. “They deserve to be raised as siblings, and that was my fight.”
