A 24-year-old father has been jailed after shaking his five-week-old baby boy with incredible force because he was jealous of his girlfriend who got to have a night out.
Mehmet Tufan from Liverpool, UK, reportedly shook his infant son with such might the baby was left permanently brain-damaged and blind.
Following the cruel assault, Mehmet has been sentenced to two years in prison for attacking a child due to “frustration or anger.”
The brutal attack followed moments after the young father argued with his girlfriend over text messages. Allegedly, Mehmet went berserk and took out his anger on the baby after his girlfriend told him some guy wanted to dance with her during her night out.
Following this update, the 24-year-old burst into a rage and began shaking his son uncontrollably, causing the five-week-old to suffer “an extensive brain injury, blood in his spinal cord, and extensive retinal hemorrhages.”
While the father initially denied intentionally inflicting bodily harm, he accepted the plea deal in which the attack was described as “a momentary loss of control.” The judge also accepted that Mehmet has been suffering from panic and anxiety which contributed to his loss of control.
Sentencing the young father to two years in prison, Judge Robert Warnock said:
“While in sole charge of your son you became jealous at the absence of the mother and treated and handled your son wholly inappropriately so as significantly to injure him.
“The consequences for your son have been appalling. He is severely brain-damaged. He has and will never have any appreciable quality of life. His life span has been significantly shortened.
“No sentence that I pass today can help your son live a life to which he was entitled and I cannot remove the pain and suffering that you have inflicted on others and yourself by your loss of control that night.”
