Parents are willing to do anything to save their children even if that means they have to break some laws.
That’s what happened to Darius Hinkle from Illinois when he decided to rush his baby to the hospital without following the speed limit.
His 1-year-old daughter accidentally swallowed a penny and was choking. He knew he needed to get his daughter to the hospital in time so Hinkle and his partner Donecia Pittman immediately jumped into the car and rushed their baby to the hospital.
“First thing in my mind was, get her to the hospital,” he told KTVI. “That’s my daughter. I won’t let anything happen to her.”
Hinkle hit speeds of over 100mph and it wasn’t long before police followed him. He chose not to slow down as he wanted to save his baby’s life.
As soon as they reached the hospital, the cops ordered them to put their hands up. They followed but Pittman repeatedly shouted that their child was choking.
“They told us to get out and put our hands up, and I got out and I put my hands up and I yelled and I told the police ‘my baby is choking,’” Pittman said.
“And I told them multiple times that she was choking. They was just worried about the fact that we were speeding.”
Hinkle admitted that he didn’t bring his driver’s license and was taken to jail. He was still thankful that he managed to get his baby to the hospital in time and she was saved.
Aware of the family’s plight, nurses decided to post his bond as they knew the father had only been speeding out of love for his child.
Pittman said: “Somebody was up there and they said ‘I’m here to bond out Darius Hinkle,’ and I was looking like — I didn’t know who it was, and when I looked out the door to see who it was, she spoke and said I’m the nurse from Touchette Hospital.
“I couldn’t thank them enough like they was there for us ever since we had got there.”
