A father of a girl with Down’s syndrome was left with a broken skull after thugs attacked him over a handicapped parking space.
50-year-old Goran Velinov says one of the attackers told him he was “sick of disabled people” before the attack occurred in Belgrade, Serbia.
Goran, whose daughter has Down’s syndrome, was left with a broken frontal bone in his skull. His jawbone and cheekbone were also broken when he was punched in the eye.
The father was forced to tell his worried daughter that “dad had to fix his eye” when she asked about the wounds.
The suspects were arrested on the same day as the attack and both will be detained for two days while a criminal report is taken to a prosecutor. They have been named as Z.S., 24, and T.M., 50.
When Goran saw the parking space for people with disabled badges was occupied by a non-badge holder, he asked two other people near the vehicle to call the driver.
When the driver came, he refused to move his vehicle and told the father he was ‘sick of disabled people.’
The father said his neighbor then came to back him up but one of the driver’s friends also came to argue.
“My neighbor told them that it’s not alright that they don’t want to move and that the woman would not be able to take out the child of the car,” Goran said.
His 67-year-old neighbor named Nikola got hit before Goran also got hit in the face. The attackers then fled as he called the police.
“My neighbor and I were transferred to hospital where later that day I underwent surgery,” he added. “He hit me only once, while my neighbor was hit around ten times and he required stitching.”
