A father of two young children tragically passed away while attempting to save his son and daughter after they got pulled into the sea by large waves.
The heartbreaking incident took place in Jenner, California, where a husband and wife visited Blind Beach together with their kids aged 4 and 7.
While the little boy and girl were playing with the sand, a large wave swept them off their feet and pulled them deeper into the raging waters right in front of their parents.
In an attempt to save his children from drowning, the 40-year-old father, Michael Wyman, jumped into the water and went after the kids. While he managed to grab his 4-year-old son, the trio got pulled into the sea by the strong currents.
Eventually, the man’s wife managed to pull her husband out of the water with the help of other witnesses. Sadly, Mr. Wyman could not be saved and was declared dead at the beach at around 3 pm.
Meanwhile, the two young children went missing, whereas the authorities still haven’t found them as of this writing. According to the reports, the two children are presumed dead.
“The waves are very treacherous. Even very strong swimmers would have trouble getting out of the water,” Sonoma County Sheriff Lt. Michael Raasch told KPIX.
After a large-scale Sunday search that involved firefighters, lifeguards, the US Coast Guard, and the police, the crew only managed to retrieve a pair of shoes and a jacket. The search continued on Monday.
As Monte Rio Fire Chief Steve Baxman expressed, the first responders were left greatly affected by the tragic incident that left a mother and a wife without her kids and husband.
