36-year-old Aaron Lohman was used to eating pizza and at least half a dozen donuts per day as he was patrolling the New York streets.
After dreaming of dying and leaving his family behind, however, something clicked in the cop and he knew he had to lose weight fast.
And so, the determined man started working out and shed 150 pounds, dropping from 425 lbs. to 275 lbs.
“It was difficult to move around and the long hours you put in as a cop were tough. I work eight and a half hour night shifts and sometimes double shifts,” Aaron recalled, speaking of the point in his life when his weight was at its highest.
“I would eat sweets for breakfast or cookies. Whatever I could get my hands on. I love doughnuts and I still do, but I would have eaten half a dozen doughnuts in a sitting sometimes, no problem.
“For lunch, I would always have fast food. Pizza or Chinese. I could eat four slices of pizza easily or a whole meatball and Parmesan hero, followed by ice cream. I might repeat that for dinner.”
Fortunately, however, one terrible nightmare was enough to set the officer on the right path.
“A couple of years ago, I had a nightmare that I fell off a roof and died leaving my daughter without a dad,” he added.
“I woke up so relieved it was a dream, but I knew at that moment I could no longer wait until tomorrow or Monday. I had to tackle my weight then and there.
“After that dream, I got an exercise bike and just started with that. I was doing it three times a week and tracking my calories on an app.”
In a matter of a few years, Aaron managed to transform his body for the better. While he still loves pizza, ice cream, and donuts, he now makes sure to exercise regularly to stay fit.
“I don’t think my size made me a bad cop. I actually think I’ve always been good at my job, but of course, I think I’m much more positive about things now,” Aaron concluded.
“I am probably easier to work with and a better co-worker. Losing weight and exercising gave me a clearer head and a better mindset. My attitude changed and I was a happier person.”
