The dad of the 7-year-old girl who was shot dead while waiting for food in Chicago on Sunday may have been the shooter’s intended target.
Seven-year-old Jaslyn Adams was shot multiple times while waiting in line at a McDonald’s drive-thru in Homan Square together with her dad, 29-year-old Jontae Adams. Following the shooting, the young girl was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, her father remains in a serious condition, whereas the police are still on the hunt for the suspect.
Though the motive for the shooting remains unclear, police believe that Mr. Adams may have been the suspect’s target.
Since the shooting, it has been revealed that the young father was arrested for drug offenses several times in the past.
Back in 2012, Adams was among several suspected gang members who got arrested on suspicion of manufacturing heroin and running an open-air drug market in Chicago. As per court records, the man got arrested twice in 2012 and twice more in 2013.
Though Adams was already convicted in 2016, he was two years later, in 2018, once more arrested after being found in possession of heroin.
Following the Sunday afternoon shooting, the police have launched a manhunt in an attempt to bring Jaslyn’s killer to justice.
Meanwhile, the heartbroken father shared several photos of him and his daughter on Facebook where he acknowledged the mistakes he had done in his life but went on to defend his parenting methods.
“I never did anything but show her how a man suppose to a woman. Anything she ask she basically get, I don’t give a f*** what yal think because yal a** Ignorant,” he wrote.
He added: “I taught her how to use bathroom brush teeth all that – nothing but smiles when we together I know my mistakes I made out here but I already blame myself so yal tryna do it not gone work.”
