A father-of-four has been told he will not be getting any winnings from a scratchcard even though he claimed he scooped the $250,000 (£200,000) jackpot.
Eric Walker said he matched three symbols on a £3 Pharaoh’s Fortune card. But the lottery organizers, Camelot, said his winning card had been altered to make an F look like an E.
Mr. Walker purchases six scratchcards a day and said the imperfect looking ‘E’ is caused by a misprint. He also said that the money would be life-changing for him and his 37-year-old partner Amanda Emmadi, and his four children.
“In my eyes I’ve won £200,000 and I’m being cheated out of the money,” he said. “They’re trying to tell me that an F has been changed to an E but I bought the ticket and scratched it myself. I haven’t doctored it, I’m not trying to cheat.
“If it’s a misprint then that’s their fault and they should still pay out, it’s nothing to do with me. I’m going to keep pressure on Camelot to sort this out, I’m not willing to let it go.”
The 56-year-old bought the scratchcard from a Premier corner shop. The game requires players to show coordinates that match with the three pharaoh symbols on the grid.
His card shows he uncovered three pharaoh symbols on squares D1, A5, and E5. But the E5 code appears to have been altered.
His F5 square on the grid had also been scratched off and there’s no pharaoh in the square.
A Camelot spokesperson said: “Based on the photo we were sent we were able to re-construct the scratchcard in our system.
“We can confirm that an F has been altered to appear as an E and is therefore not a winning Scratchcard.”
