Even today, fathers are still seen as the people who not only work hard to provide for their family, they are also the disciplinarians who make sure that their children grow up right.
But more important than just handing out discipline, fathers are also role models who their children can look up to and emulate. After all, people tend to copy others better than they listen to them.
On the other side, dads can also be hilarious jokesters that can be both funny and mortifying. After all, that’s why the term “Dad Jokes” exists.
One dad named Jason Hilley managed to combine both hilarity and teaching a valuable lesson about modesty. It all started when he saw his 14-year-old daughter wearing a pair of short shorts, the ones where your butt cheek would almost stick out.
Speaking to Today, Hilley said he was like most fathers when he reacted by saying, “I said, ‘Kendall, take my debit card and buy yourself shorts that fit. She got on her computer and did just that.”
He thought the matter had ended there, but when Kendall again tried to leave the house wearing those same short shorts, Hilley realized that he hadn’t driven the lesson home enough.
“I asked, ‘Why aren’t you wearing your new shorts?’ And she goes, ‘These are my new shorts!’”
Most dads would just ground their daughter then and there but Hilley decided on a more embarrassing “punishment” that would make Kendall, and maybe even her Facebook friends, off of short shorts forever.
Entering Kendall’s bedroom with his own version of short shorts, Hilley told his daughter they needed “to have a talk.” Hilley’s wife, Alison, was filming the whole scene and could be heard laughing behind the camera.
“Get your shorts,” her husband said. “We’re going to see whose fit better.”
Obviously embarrassed but still giggling the whole time, Kendall didn’t want to but Hilley said he’ll pick her up from school wearing his “butt cut shorts” if she didn’t comply.
Laughing the whole time, she pulls her shorts on and the pair pose for the camera. Kendall tried to explain that her shorts weren’t really inappropriate but her dad had the perfect reply.
“These aren’t even that short,” Kendall said.
“No, neither are mine,” replied Hilley.
Hilley uploaded the video to Facebook just in time for Father’s Day and captioned it with: “You wear yours out in public? I will wear mine! Parenting 101!”
One thing’s for sure, it’s a fashion lesson Kendall won’t soon forget.
