A 31-year-old father will become the subject of a special research study after beating double pneumonia, heart failure, two strokes, sepsis, and coronavirus.
Omar Taylor from Essex miraculously recovered from coronavirus at Colchester Hospital after doctors told his relatives to prepare for the worst.
The father-of-two spent 30 days on a ventilator and even though he was told he would never walk again and lost the use of his right arm, he managed to leave the hospital on foot.
Taylor is still not able to talk but he is continuing his recovery at home with his loving wife and children.
His case is to be studied in a research project by scientists who will examine his recovery.
Taylor’s wife, 30-year-old Kaitlyn, said: “We are very relieved. It’s been a difficult road. Omar has come back a different person with many months, to years of therapy. So there’s a long road of recovery.”
Omar has now recovered some of his speech and can speak up to three words at a time.
“He’s able to say maybe two or three words at once, but we have a speech and language therapists who come out everyday, and we do lots of practice,” Kaitlyn shared.
Omar’s right arm is still paralyzed but medics said he will make a 90 percent recovery by the end of 2020.
“We didn’t think he was going to make it,” Kaitlyn revealed. “Also, when he had a double stroke, he was told he would never walk again.
“And when he was on a ventilator, he had a tracheotomy, so we didn’t know if he would ever talk again.”
Speaking of the doctors who did their best to treat her husband, Kaitlyn said: “They are just so amazing. We can’t thank them enough, if it wasn’t for all of the staff on the front line. They go out every day and help people and they’ve saved Omar’s life.”
