A devoted father who got shot while protecting his children from a gunman who opened fire at a car dealership has lost both of his jobs after being left unable to walk due to his injuries.
Anthony Jefferson has been hailed a hero dad after surveillance footage showing him shield his kids from bullets has surfaced.
When the father was looking for a new car at On The Road Automotive in Bronx, NYC, in order to surprise his wife on her birthday, a gunman with alleged ties to a gang entered the building and opened fire, sending stray bullets towards Jefferson and his three children.
Immediately, the father wrapped his arms around his kids in order to shield the from the bullets. In the process, he got shot in his leg.
While Anthony was already released from the hospital, he has been left unable to walk due to his bullet wounds.
As Danica Jefferson, the man’s wife, explained, her husband will still have to undergo a surgery to have the bullet lodged in his leg removed.
In addition, her husband has lost his jobs as a construction worker and head painter after being rendered unable to walk.
As for the couple’s children, they allegedly remain distressed and in disbelief that someone had shot their father.
Following the tragic incident, a family friend has set up a GoFundMe page for the family in order to raise funds to help them pay for medical expenses and therapy bills.
According to the police, they are on the hunt for two suspects, one of whom stole a car right after the shooting.
As the New York Daily News alleged, sources informed them that the suspects opened fire in the car dealership when their suspected rival gang member was in the building. It is not clear if Jefferson was also the suspects’ intended target.
