A father has sparked a heated social media debate after doing a somersault with his young daughter in his arms.
27-year-old Max Whitlock from Essex, UK, is a proud father to 1-year-old Willow. He also happens to be a five-time Olympic medalist who brought home two gold and three bronze medals.
In one of the recent clips that he captioned “when my wife isn’t looking,” the young man performed a somersault while on a trampoline with his daughter in his arms.
After the video went viral, plenty of supporters praised the father for being active and involving his daughter in his exercising routine.
“Fantastic to see. Kids need a bit of safe rough and tumble with their dad/ mum for their development! All too often they are wrapped in cotton wool!” one person wrote in gymnast’s support.
“What a dad! That will be hours of fun for her and all friends – you’ll be hired out for birthday parties!!! He he,” another one wrote.
One Twitter user said: “Never too early to introduce the little one to sports… And what a way to do it.”
While plenty of people felt there was nothing wrong with the father and daughter performing a somersault together, some parents lashed out at Max and called his stunt “dangerous” and “stupid” after the clip went viral and hit the news.
“Absolutely stupid. One slip and a dead or brain damaged child,” one person wrote.
“This is ridiculously dangerous. Not to mention the potential harm to the child’s brain,” another one insisted.
