A video of a father and son killing a bear and her two cubs, published to YouTube by the Humane Society of the United States, shows footage from a camera set up to film the animals as part of a wildlife study.
The son, identified as Owen Renner, even said in the video, “They’ll never be able to link it to us.”
According to KTUU-TV, the clip was released by the Alaska Department of Public Safety after the Humane Society’s public records request.
The clip shows son Owen Renner and his father Andrew Renner skiing up to a den before the father aimed a rifle inside then fired ‘at least two shots’ at the animal.
“Seconds after the fatal gunshots, cubs began shrieking in the den,” the Alaska Department of Law said.
The father fired multiple shots, killing the cubs, according to the statement. The two then high-fived in the clip and Owen Renner posed for a picture with the mother bear’s body.
They butchered the carcass before taking it all and skiing away. They came back two days later to collect the carcasses of the cubs.
“You and me, we don’t (expletive) around,” the son said. “We go where we want to kill (expletive).”
The incident was captured by a motion-activated camera above them. It was installed as a part of a joint study on bears between the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and US Forest Service.
18-year-old Owen Renner and 41-year-old Andrew Renner pleaded guilty to poaching the mother bear and her cubs, according to KTUU-TV.
Andrew paid a $9,000 fine, lost his hunting license for ten years, and was sentenced to 3 months in jail. He also forfeited two rifles, a GMC pickup, two handguns, and a 22-foot boat.
Owen, who was 17 at the time of the incident, was sentenced to community service and lost his hunting license for two years.
