A father has been left fighting for his life after his son ignored his advice and unintentionally infected his entire family with coronavirus in the process.
According to the family of 42-year-old John Place from Plantation, Florida, the entire family tested positive for COVID-19 after contracting the killer bug from John’s 21-year-old son who ignored their advice and attended a party during which he removed his face mask.
Unknowingly, the son brought the virus back home and infected his father, John, his stepmother, Michelle Zymet, and his siblings.
The disease has had the worst impact on 42-year-old John who has been left fighting for his life in the intensive care unit.
While Zymet admitted some people branded her an ‘evil’ and ‘awful’ mother for putting the blame on her stepson, she insisted it is important to share the story to educate young people about potential consequences of letting their guard down during the pandemic and prevent similar cases.
“He always assured me, ‘Don’t worry, mom. I’m doing everything right, relax, chill.’ You know how these kids are, so I trusted in him,” Zymet said in an interview 7 News Miami.
While the stepmother insisted she begged the 21-year-old not to go out and put his family at risk, the youthful spirit prevailed and the lad contracted coronavirus.
Just days following the party, the son started developing symptoms of the disease and later tested positive for COVID-19. Meanwhile, the virus spread throughout the family and infected his parents and siblings.
“You let your guard down just one time, it’s all it takes. You come home, and you infect the entire house,” Zymet added.
“Maybe they think, ‘None of us are sick. We are fine.’ They don’t understand many of us are asymptomatic and are positive carriers of the virus.”
Following the diagnosis, the family launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to pay for the medical bills they are facing.
Sending prayers to the entire family and wishing them a swift recovery!
