A father has been arrested after tossing his 1-year-old son off a balcony amid a heated argument with the boy’s grandmother.
In the incident which took place in Dazhou, Sichuan, China, 29-year-old Zhang was fighting with his mother over financial issues before throwing the young boy off a five-story balcony.
After the authorities arrived at the scene, the toddler, who suffered a 65-feet fall from the apartment, was declared dead.
According to the reports, Zhang has been arrested following the incident and admitted to throwing his child off the balcony due to rage he experienced while fighting with the child’s grandmother.
As the heartbroken grandfather of the toddler revealed, the boy was enjoying his first birthday before his father had murdered him.
The grandmother, surnamed Qin, added that she and her husband didn’t provide any financial support to the couple but claimed that her husband was taking care of the boy while his parents were at work.
Recalling the tragic evening, Qin explained she got in a row with her son after accusing him of buying new earrings for himself but not providing for his son.
“The baby was crying in my arms and he said he would take him. I thought he was going to put him to bed,” she recalled.
“But he took him and threw him out the window. I didn’t have time to react and burst into tears.”
In a heartbreaking video that circulated the internet, the boy’s devastated grandparents are seen holding the toddler’s lifeless body before the authorities arrived at the scene.
“I was standing about 10 meters (32 feet) from my guard booth when I saw something being thrown from above,” security guard Yuan explained.
“It landed three to four meters away from me. At first, I thought it was rubbish but later discovered it was a child – then I screamed.”
According to the grandparents, Zhang attempted to jump off the balcony himself after throwing his baby but they managed to stop him.
