Dr. Fauci Urges Americans to Trust Scientists and Refuse “Political Nonsense”

Anthony Fauci has found himself in the crosshairs of political figures as the scapegoat for a health crisis.

Dr. Fauci is widely and rightfully recognized as the top health expert regarding infectious diseases. He is a living legend who has spearheaded various epidemics in the last 3 decades such as MERS and the Ebola virus.

Despite his long career in the public health sector, Fauci has rarely been the central focus of the media or political figures. However, a pandemic of a scale that is only seen once every decade along with a publicly tense relationship with the President has put the 79 year old physician in an unfamiliar spot.

In an environment in which the most objective suggestions such as wearing a mask becomes politicized, Fauci urged people to believe the words of the scientists and disregard the “political nonsense” that has been spread about Covid-19.

During an online seminar that was hosted by Georgetown University’s Global Health Initiative, Fauci said that medical experts who have generally stated the right things are the ones that should be trusted during a pandemic.

The physician said that he believes he is one of those scientists who have tried to discern the situation based on the facts, and thus is genuine when he asks people to believe what he says.

However, Fauci added that people can research and find out the track records of any so called experts and choose for themselves whose words they wish to take seriously. The way he emphasized a stellar record has been interpreted by some as a swipe on President Trump.

He also acknowledged that he fully understand why the public can get confused amidst all the varying information that is relayed through the media. At the same, he underlined how this miscommunication can have serious health consequences for public health.

When a student asked what should be done to stop the politicizing of a public health crisis, the 79-year old doctor urged people to refuse to partake in the politicization. He went so far as to state that the political nonsense is a distraction from the reality.
