Star of the popular show Desperate Housewives, Felicity Huffman has been charged in an illegal act along with 40 other people in the USA who were involved in a practice of getting students into the universities in a cheating scam.
The scam involved helping the students to cheat on their tests too get in by scoring great on entrance exams and providing athletic scholarships to fake athletic students.
Some of the most elite universities were the destination of this scam. The students who were not able to get into the universities were opting the other or the illegal way around. There is no chance that the universities were involved in the scam.
Then who were the people who were a part of this scam? Well, this includes some of the wealthiest people of the country, including CEOs of some major companies.
US Attorney Andrew Lelling said in a conference help about this scam called Operation Varsity Blues on Tuesday, “These parents are a catalog of wealth and privilege.”
According to the document made to charge her against the wrongdoing, Ms. Huffman made a donation of $15,000 (£11,500) to be a part of this scam for her eldest daughter. She allegedly arranged the same to do it again for her younger daughter before she made her mind up on not doing so.
She has been charged with two points, conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. She was recorded discussing the scheme while a cooperating witness revealed it all.
The witness said that he met the actress and her husband actor William H Macy at their Los Angeles home. They then discussed the plan and decided to work upon it.
Ms. Huffman appeared in the court for the trial where she was found guilty but was released on a bail and on a fine of $250,000. She has been restricted to travel to the continental parts of the US by court.
