Construction amounting to $64million has begun to create a thirteen feet fence outside The White House.
Currently, the fence where the tourists gather for pictures stands at six feet.
The construction work will last until 2021, and till then, the visitors will struggle from a perfect snap of the President’ s residence.
The Secret Services revealed that the construction is important for security and will have wider and stronger pickets.
The National Park Service that provides care for the White House and is responsible for maintaining its eighteen acres of grounds is also participating in the project.
In 2017, The fence design won approvals from both the National Capital Planning Commission and the Commission of Fine Arts. The contract from the same was given for $64 million in June 2018.
There will be an additional inch of distance between the pickets to mark five and a half inches space between the posts in the new fence. Initial construction will focus on the border around the President’s residence and its immediate surroundings.
The construction will later bring improvements to the fences around the Eisenhower Executive Office Building the Treasury Department, located on either side of the White House.
Officials said that a new taller fence was required after several security breaches of the President’s residence.
In 2014, a Texas man with a knife crossed the fence, ran across the North Lawn, and got into the White House. This incident forced the officials to put another barrier made of metal bike racks.
This security has kept visitors from taking snaps of the White House without fence in the frame.
Public access to sidewalks and areas adjoining the White House’s south was restricted in 2017, shortly after Trump took office.
This happened after a California man was able to roam for seventeen minutes with a mace before being discovered by Secret Service officers.
