DNA test results have revealed a fertility doctor illegally fathered at least 49 children by using his own sperm rather than donors’.
New reports claim he may have fathered up to 200 children during his time.
Dutch doctor Jan Kaarbat died in 2017 at the age of 89. But after his death, it was discovered that instead of using the sperm from chosen donors at his clinic, he illegally used his own sperm to impregnate women.
DNA Tests have revealed that 49 children are direct descendants of the Dutch doctor. Just imagine discovering you had 48 half-siblings!
Defence for Children, an organization that represents parents and children born through his clinic, told Mail Online: “The results confirm serious suspicions that Karbaat used his own sperm at his clinic.”
Before the doctor died, it has been claimed that he admitted to fathering around 60 children at the clinic which closed ten years ago after reports of irregularities.
The case quickly became public after a court ruled that DNA test results should be made available to children and parents. Most of the children are now in their thirties.
Joey, one of Kaarbat’s descendants, told Dutch broadcaster NOS that he could “finally close the chapter” now that he knew his father’s identity.
“After a search of 11 years I can continue my life. I am glad that I finally have clarity,” he added.
Defence for Children adviser lara de Witte told Sky News: “The judge placed the interest of the child above the right to privacy of Mr Karbaat and his family.
“After years of uncertainty, the plaintiffs are finally closing a period and they can start processing the fact that they are one of the many descendants of Karbaat.”
