A teenager named Whitney Kropp has been extremely excited as she learned that she was nominated for the homecoming queen by her classmates at Michigan Ogemaw Heights High School.
The excitement, however, didn’t last long.
Whitney soon found out that the nomination wasn’t real. It was a sneaky prank devised by her bullies to torment her further and make her feel miserable. “I had actually thought about suicide. I thought I wasn’t worthy at Ogemaw Heights at all,” Whitney said.
Despite her emotional scars, she continued to believe in herself and push on. Suicide didn’t feel like the right way to deal with the problems she had. Her parents supported her and helped her form a team of supporters by reaching out to various Facebook support groups.
Together with local businesses, they soon shared her story and spread out the word about the need to stop bullying. They also created their own support site on Facebook which gathered over 120K likes.
“Stand up for what you believe in and go with your heart and go with your gut” – Whitney Kropp
Her inspiring story touched the hearts of many, and Whitney soon became nationally as well as globally recognized. Other students from her high school were shocked by how things turned out as well.
“I think it’s awful what happened to her and I want to let her know that there are people here for her,” Alli Halladay, a student from the opponent high school said.
In a rally of support, the local businesses gathered and offered her a free makeover. They also donated free dresses, jewelry, and anti-bullying T-shirts. Whitney even received flowers from as far as California.
At the halftime of the long-awaited homecoming football game, Whitney appeared on the court as a nominee after all. At first, she was reluctant to attend but decided to go because it was the best way to get back at the bullies. Despite not winning the homecoming queen title, Whitney is happy that she received so much support and that she was able to stand up to her bullies.
