Filmmaker and activist James Redford has passed away at his home at the age of 58.
As the screenwriter’s wife, Kyle, confirmed, her 58-year-old husband died of bile-duct cancer at their California home in Marin County.
“Jamie died today. We’re heartbroken. He lived a beautiful, impactful life & was loved by many. He will be deeply missed,” Kyle wrote in her heartbreaking Twitter post.
“As his wife of 32 yrs, I’m most grateful for the two spectacular children we raised together. I don’t know what we would’ve done w/o them over the past 2yrs.”
Along with the distressing announcement, Kyle also shared a series of family photos.
As The Salt Lake Tribune reported, Kyle has informed them that her husband died after a long battle with bile-duct cancer in his liver.point 340 |

Paying a tribute to the philanthropist was also Jill Tidman, the executive director of The Redford Center, the not-for-profit institution founded by James and his actor father Robert.
“It is with profound sadness that we grieve the loss of James Redford, our Co-Founder, our inspiration and our friend,” Tidman wrote in an Instagram post.
“With Jamie came love and contagious joy. He approached everything he did with kindness and warmth, and an openness that spread itself easily among others.
“Jamie worked tirelessly to build a healthier world for us all, and particularly for those most in need of support. He always led with his enormous heart and was guided by his curiosity and creative spirit. He was a fierce protector of the natural world and believed that everyone deserved a healthy environment in which they could thrive and play.”
As the tribute went on to read, James was an “intentional and inspirational” writer, activist, and filmmaker as well as a devout supporter of his friends and family.
May he rest in peace.
