A brave firefighter was dubbed a hero after putting his own life on the line in order to save several stranded koalas that got trapped by a bushfire in Adelaide, South Australia.
As Janelle Michalowski explained with the help of a series of photos she took, a firefighter named Adam saved several koalas who were left in the path of the fire.
“Amazing work by a man named Adam and his mates who pulled these guys out of harm’s way at Cudlee Creek and into safety! Adam is a firefighter and currently working out in the field, he has made everyone’s day,” the woman wrote.
Soon enough, the woman’s post went viral whereas hundreds of people applauded the firefighter for saving the innocent animals.
“Thank you for everything you have done and are doing not only for people but also for animals that are left to fend for themselves,” someone wrote.
“All I have in my mind is images of burnt koalas, good to see some rescued out of danger,” another one expressed.
Following the successful mission, Koala Rescue took in the animals and provided them with proper care.
According to an ecologist from the Nature Conservation Council, the majority of koalas from regions affected by the bushfires “really have no capacity to move fast enough” to escape a horrible death.
“We’ve lost such a massive swathe of known koala habitat that I think we can say without any doubt there will be ongoing declines in koala populations from this point forward,” Mark Graham said.
“The fires have burnt so hot and so fast that there has been significant mortality of animals in the trees, but there is such a big area now that is still on fire and still burning that we will probably never find the bodies.”
