Meet the world’s first Down Syndrome couple who was immensely criticized when they decided to spend their life together but now the husband has tragically passed away.
After a span of 18 months, Maryanne and Tommy knew that they were made for one another. Clearly, not too many people were happy for them, neither did they approve of their relationship. But despite all the odds against them, the couple opted to tye the knot and live a life of happily ever after together.
The couple says that they were fortunate enough not to let other people’s opinions and negativity get to them because there was plenty of it coming from all directions.
In July of 1995, the duo exchanged their vows and promised to support one another in sickness and in health at Saint Mary’s Church which is located in Showburyness, Essex. The couple made headlines around the globe as the first Down Syndrome couple to say ‘I do.’
Now, 25 years down the lane, the couple appears to be doing well and going strong.
At the same time, they’ve also managed to gain so many followers and fans through social media. It’s almost as if they’ve inspired others that are similar to them that the sky is the limit and if you work hard towards your goals and leave people’s negativity behind, there’s no stopping anyone.
The couple loves sharing updates on their life and hence has managed to gain the love and appreciation of so many people.
As far as the wedding itself is concerned, many people disapproved of the idea.
They opted not to attend the event as they thought it wasn’t a good idea and the marriage wouldn’t last. The couple reveals how people would often give them negative stares and just went to the wrong assumption that the lovebirds wouldn’t be able to make their relationship work.
With 23 years gone by, the couple says they’re stronger than ever and can’t wait to tackle many more obstacles together that life throws at them with each passing day. And there’s nothing more loving than that?
