A striking Manta Ray was captured swimming in the Great Barrier Reef.
It is among the rarest fish in the world, owing to its beautiful pink appearance.
Christened the famous Inspector Clouseau, after the globally acclaimed series of Pink Panther, this massive ray features a wingspan measuring up to seven meters in width and this creature weighs around 2 tonnes.
This rare species has only been spotted a few times swimming off the Great Barrier Reef in Australia over the last decade.
Kristian Laine, a Finnish photographer, captured these mesmerizing pictures of this rare fish last year.
These photos created a great deal of buzz as scientists are working towards figuring out what is the reason behind its unique discoloration.
The photographer revealed that these amazing photographs were taken at Lady Elliot Island near the reef. According to Kristian, there are different theories as to why Inspect Clouseau gets its unique pink color.
There are different answers as by people who have analyzed their skin and have changed their theories multiple times. But no one is sure about the reason why this fish has such distinctive skin color
The latest theory is that there is some type of genetic mutation that results in pink melanin. It is quite rates because there are have been only eight to ten of these fishes sighted ever since they were first discovered in 2015.
Kristian revealed that he was overwhelmed when he has first discovered this fish and was at its eye level.
He revealed that he was so close to the fish that he could have easily touched it. The photograph ended up spending around 30 minutes in the presence of a manta ray who was circling the cleaning station during that time.
