A model from Spain made history on Friday after winning the qualifying contest which gave her the privilege to represent her country at the Miss Universe pageant.
You might be wondering what’s new about it, every year someone represents their country at the prestigious event.
Well, what if I tell you the model qualified for the Miss Universe Pageant is a transgender.
Yes, the world will see the first ever transgender model competing for Miss Universe.
Angela Ponce, 26-year-old model, won the Spanish crown on 29th June and now has got the privilege to represent Spain at the 67th Miss Universe pageant to be organized later this year in the Philippines.
In 2012, the Miss Universe Organization ended its ban on transgender contestants, giving transgender models a platform to prove themselves.
Angela first appeared in a beauty pageant in 2015 where she competed for Miss World Spain. However, she didn’t win the title but was happy to represent Cadiz, her province.
After winning the qualifying round, she took to Instagram and wrote that her dream is to bring the colors and name of her country before the Universe. She added that her goal is to be a spokesperson for a message of diversity, respect, inclusion, and equality not only for the LGBTQ community but for the communities across the globe.
She is an inspiration not only to the people of her community but for the whole world. She is a role model for many youngsters.
