A former NAVY officer who decided to become a doctor switched his career again and now has taken his role in the latest class of NASA’s Astronauts.
Dr. Jonny Kim, who has a huge list of accolades added NASA to it too as he graduated from NASA’s space mission training on Friday as this training is going to send him to the outer space along with 11 other astronauts.
This is going to mark history as Kim is going to be the very first Korean – American astronaut who has been assigned with the travel to Space Station, on missions to the Moon, and potentially if everything went right, he will be among the very first few people to explore Mars.
The 35 years old man who is a husband and a father said that he had always been a huge seeker of adventure. He says he loves the rush he gets when he does something crazy and something way out of his comfort zone. This is why it took him a while to find his calling.
Kim in an interview said that as a child he was too quiet and lacked self-confidence. Then when he turned 16 and started realizing his will in life, he discovered about United States Naval Special Warfare Command and decided to go on the path.
He said “Joining the NAVY was the best decision of my life. It is because of Navy that the scared little boy I was could turn into the brave and confident person I am today.”
He had joined the navy in 2002 and then after about a decade, he decided to leave and go on studying medical. He graduated from Harvard Medical School in 2016.
He had been working as a resident physician when he received the news in June 2017 that he has been selected to be an astronaut and he was more than excited for the opportunity.
