Everyone loves having a good burger and Five Guys’ restaurant is serving the best quality product with some fries and a smile.
The chain is famous for serving “only hand-formed burgers, they cooked with perfection on a grill along with fresh-cut fries cooked in pure peanut oil,” according to their website.
Justin Hollon, manager of the Greektown Five Guys located in Detroit, Michigan, is one of those people who serve it up with a smile.
Many restaurants welcome in regular customers day in and day out, and this particular burger joint is no different.
One of those regular customers was a man in a wheelchair. When he went to place his order, Hollon noticed something wasn’t right.
“This time when he came in, he was having trouble ordering, saying he was sick,” Hollon told WJBK. “He was so unwell that he couldn’t even process the order himself, so we just gave it to him.”
The free meal, which Hollon calls their “All the Way Burger”, was certainly generous. But the manager did something more to make sure the customer was taken care of during his entire dining experience.
When he saw the customer was also struggling to feed himself, Hollon sat with him and help him enjoy his meal.
“Every guest is special to us,” he told the news outlet. “Take care of each other, love each other. Our troops have fought for the freedom to be ourselves and to pay it forward and just respect each other. That’s what I’m thankful for.”
One of Hollon’s employees who also helped out agreed. “It’s a good feeling, helping somebody,” she shared with WJBK.
Hollon told Liftable, a section of The Western Journal, that he is happy that the story went viral— especially for his employees.
“I believe that every person can make an impact on a person’s life through small acts, like this one, and even larger acts,” he said.
“What I am most grateful for is the impact the story has had on my team.
Too often my staff and I hear negative stories about the city we call home and often morale is lowered because ‘who wants to work in that environment. ’”He also told Liftable that he’s worked at the Greektown location for three years, and made a friendly atmosphere there.
“At Five Guys we don’t have — or believe in canned interactions but in the genuine interactions,” he added. “All of our interactions are genuine and I believe that is what sets us apart from our competitors. It is in this belief that it came as a surprise to me, that so many are surprised to see this level of service for our guests.”
Hollon gave a shout out on Facebook to his “amazing employees.” Many commented that they were proud of the man for his compassion.
“Leonard, the man who we assisted is a great man, who like many of us found himself in a situation where he needed assistance,” Hollon concluded. “I hope that this story will lead more people to just take the human, genuine, route and assist their fellow man.”
