Five-Time Wimbledon Champion, Venus Williams Knocked Out by 15 Years Old Cori Gauff


Venus Williams is considered as the Wimbledon royalty.

She has been a member of the All England Club for more than two decades. She has been the winner of the singles title five times.

The 2019 grand slam tournament started on July 1st in London, United Kingdom. On the very first day, Cori Gauff has made her milestone move by knocking out Venus Williams out of the series by a score of 6-4, 6-4.

Only once before has Venus been knocked out in the first round. It was her debut match in the year 1997.

Cori is a 15-year-old American tennis player. She is the youngest finalist at the US Open in the girls’ singles ever.

Born in a family of athletes, Gauff has always had the aim of becoming a tennis player, just like her idols- Serena and Venus Williams.

She was selected by Patrick Mouratoglou, Serena Williams’ coach as a part of Champ’seed foundation when Cori was just eleven.

Gauff, being the youngest player who qualified in the main draw, did not want to miss her chance. She also wanted to lay off all the mockery that came about the age and rank difference between her and Williams.

Venus Williams, aged 39, had won her two singles title even before Cori was born.

It took a while for Cori to realize that she had won against her idol. Upon realizing, she could not control her tears and went down on her knees.

Gauff said it was her first match where she cried after winning. She was also very nervous before the game. She had to consistently remind herself that the lines were of the same size.

Cori knows her parents are super happy for her. She could see her father jumping with happiness after each score that she gained. She is definitely living her dreams.

Meanwhile, Venus is the epitome of sportsman spirit. Venus congratulated Cori and splurged her with words of encouragement.
