In the footage recorded by a passenger, the stewardess can be seen colliding with the top of the plane along with her drink trolley.

As the flight attendant hit the ceiling, the beverages she was carrying with her got spilled over passengers.

In the video, a terrified woman can be seen praying while holding her hands together as water and drinks get spilled over her head.

The shaky movements of the plane caused chaos among the passengers as seat belts got broken and seats got torn up from their places, leaving several people injured.

The pilot kept trying to pacify the fearful passengers over the intercom but nothing could keep them calm.

Mirjeta Basha, who captured the footage, said the turbulence lasted for five minutes and started about half an hour after they took off.

“People started screaming and crying,” she told Minuten. “A flight attendant slammed her trolley on the ceiling. Cups flew around, some were scalded by hot water.”

Mirjeta’s husband suffered burns and was taken to Basel Hospital along with nine more injured passengers after the plane landed at Basel airport.

Praising the cabin crew for how they tackled the traumatic incident, Mirjeta said: “They told us that we need not be afraid and everything will pass again.”

Air turbulence is a common phenomenon which occurs due to a number of reasons – including mixing of warm and cold air, excessive heat, jet streams, and flights over mountainous areas.

It often takes place at heights of 7,000 to 12,000 meters.

Although it’s totally harmless most of the time, it can also get severe enough to damage the structural components of the plane.
