A flight from Glasgow airport to New Jersey has been canceled as two pilots, aged 61 and 45, have been arrested because they turned up drink.
The two were arrested by police before boarding the United Airlines flight.
Flight UA162 to New Jersey was scheduled to leave Glasgow Airport at 9 am. However, it was canceled after the pilots’ arrest. Both of them are due to appear in court.
Angry passengers took to social media and voiced their frustrations at United Airlines as they waited for over an hour before being informed the flight was canceled.
The incident came three years after two other pilots from United Airlines were arrested for being under the influence of alcohol before flying to Newark.
First Officer Paul Grebanc, 35, was sentenced to ten months in prison while his colleague, 45-year-old Carlos Roberto Licona, was sentenced to 15 months in prison for trying to fly while under the influence of alcohol.
A police spokesperson said about the recent incident: “Police Scotland can confirm that two men aged 61 and 45 years old have been arrested and remanded in custody pending a scheduled court appearance on Tuesday August 6 on suspicion of offences under the Railways and Transport Safety Act 2003, section 97.”
One Twitter user said: “UA162 from Glasgow delayed – boarding was announced at 8.15am, but nothing has happened – they just announced that the flight crew hasn’t arrived. Really? Is this the best you can do UA? Some people have connecting flights to catch in Newark!!!”
Another furious passenger wrote: “Can I have an honest answer as to why the GLA to EWR has been cancelled?”
United Airlines responded: “Thanks for reaching out. We regret that our flight for today from GLA to EWR, UA162, has been cancelled because of crew availability.”
