Little by little, after Washington’s sign of easing up the tension of reopening the economy, Florida has taken swift action to reopen beaches, although there will be obvious terms and limits.
This is true after Florida’s Department of Health just announced the confirmed cases for Coronavirus have risen to 1421 as of Friday, making the total 24, 753. Deaths are amounting to 726 people, where 58 people have died within the 24 hours of the declaration.
The beaches of select Floridian counties and cities will be open daily from 6am to 11am and 5pm to 8pm, and restrictions are within the boundaries of exercise of walking and swimming only. Sunbathing, chairs, towels, or loitering on the shore are completely out of the question and will be officially refrained by police patrols who will be there around the popular sites. Beachgoers are required to remain six feet apart, social distancing on the get-go.
‘If for some reason it turns to helter skelter, we’re going to pull the plug again,’ Mayor Lenny Curry wagged his finger on Friday as he made the leisurely excuse officially plausible. However, Curry defended the overall decision as based on logical evidences and the need of the people, citing evidences as somehow the ‘curve is flattening’ in his city.
‘This can be the beginning of the pathway back to normal life,’ he added. ‘Please respect and follow these limitations. Stay within the guidelines for your safety as well as for the safety of your neighbors.’
Florida officials were previously accused of handling the situation with brevity and absolutely misguided judgment as the onset of the pandemic was brewing all over the States in March, where pictures showing beachgoers around Florida shocked the nation and gave awareness to further strict measures for entertainment. It now seems that there will be an upturn of that very decision a month into the quarantine measures.
Residents are also allowed for a walk, swim, surf, run or fish on the premise that they keep their social distancing policies within their heads.
Jacksonville Beach Mayor Charlie Latham said: ‘If we have to close the beach again, we’ll do it. Safety is still our top priority.’
‘This not a time to lounge. This is not a time to party. This is a time to exercise and keep moving,’ Atlantic Beach Mayor Ellen Glasser added.
