There Was a Food Queue of More Than Two Miles in a City in South Africa


A shocking video has surfaced that shows a long queue of people measuring up to two miles amidst the lockdown.

Residents of this South African city were lined up to get food parcels.

Drone footage has covered the airplane view of Centurion city and shows thousands of residents waiting in a long queue to receive their food parcel. Eight thousand food hampers had been donated to the residents here by locals companies.

Lockdown has shut down businesses, and many people have lost their jobs. People, especially the poor ones belonging to the region, are struggling for daily meals.

According to aid workers and charity, the food parcels donated by the businesses were merely a small drop in the ocean, as opposed to how much the community actually needs.

Additionally, a majority of the help is going towards Non-African residents as they are unable to claim the financial assistance from the government.

Yusuf Abramjee, a popular activist said that the country is in a massive need for food. Over 80% of the community belongs to foreigners, and they are not eligible for the government’s financial help. And he said that he is happy that their efforts were able to make a small difference.

Asgar Akood, who is a member of the United Muslim Forum, warned that the current efforts are not enough, and more should be done to ensure that everyone in the country has enough food.

He said that lockdown is going to be extended, and there will also be a rise in hunger. And they have to make continuous efforts to make sure people are fed.

Tshwane Muslim Community, along with Ikon Park, Sutherland Ridge, and Westhills business communities, has together organized the food parcels. The local businesses also appreciated Gauteng social development department as well as law enforcers for their approval.

During the distribution, police members and armed forces were standing on guard in order to make sure there is no ruckus. The South African government has also announced that it will be slowing relaxing the lockdown restriction from May 1, 2020.
