All foods don’t serve the same function.
While some improve your health or satisfy your hunger, others just make you overweight.
Unsurprisingly, these foods also happen to be the favorite eatables of obese folks. To help you avoid them, we’ve put together five such foods that can add extra inches to your body.
1. Bagels
No doubt, they’re an extremely delicious thing to eat, especially in breakfast. But they can cause your weight to go up at a rapid rate.
Lisa Young, Ph.D., R.D., author of The Portion Teller Plan and a nutritionist in New York City, told HuffPost that bagels gain you weight because they’re extremely rich in calories.
A single bagel can provide you 400 calories – and we’re not counting in the calories from any toppings.
What to do? Try English Muffin instead. They are just as tasty and carry 120 calories per piece.
2. Cream Cheese
“Cream cheese is high in fat and high in calories, and it’s easy to use several tablespoons without realizing it,” Young
told HuffPost.
Cream cheese is packed with calories. Just one tablespoon carries 5 grams of unhealthy fat and 50 calories.
What to do? Use reduced-fat cream cheese in place of the ordinary one.
3. Refined Grains
Refined grains can cause you to gain weight, no matter if they’re organic or not. They’re equally unhealthy, whether you eat them in the form of bread or pasta.
Joan Salge Blake, R.D., a spokesperson for the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and clinical professor of nutrition at Boston University, said: “You can eat these foods very quickly, and you don’t get full because they aren’t made with fiber-rich whole grains that can fill you up.”
What to do? Consider stopping after having a few slices of bread or a cup of pasta. Consuming whole-grain variety can also help.
4. Cookies
Most of the cookies you eat are high in fat and sugar – that’s why they’re so addicting and delicious. Despite seeming harmless to the core, these little eatables can make you overweight.
What to do? Replace the cookie jars in your home with mini-packs containing two to three cookies.
5. Juice
As the favorite drink of almost all overweight persons, you mustn’t be surprised to see it on this list.
Despite being rich in minerals and vitamins, juice also contains a large number of calories due to the sweeteners present in it.
What to do? Try replacing juice with herbal tea and you’ll soon feel a change in your weight.
