Former Miss England, who rejoined the NHS amid coronavirus crisis, has opened about her horrific experiences in the NHS.
24-year-old Bhasha Mukherjee, who was stuck in India at the start of the coronavirus outbreak, returned to the UK to rejoin the NHS to fight coronavirus on the frontline.
Earlier this month, she returned to the UK and is now working as a junior doctor at Lincolnshire’s Boston Pilgrim Hospital.
She told Sky News about her chilling experiences after returning to the NHS. She said her colleagues are ‘falling like flies’ because of the lack of PPE.
She told Sky News: “On one of the COVID wards we have 18 staff members who have all tested positive. We’ve got certain doctors who are critically ill and this shouldn’t have happened.”
She told so many nurses and doctors, who have been tested positive for coronavirus due to the lack of PPE, are off work. She also said that they are also being given confusing messages about safety measures.
She said the government is not doing the right thing to deal with the deadly virus and they need to change the ways they are handling the crisis.
Bhasha said she understands that the government is trying their best to fight with the deadly virus but that’s not enough.
She urged the government to stop relying on foreign exports and to find new ways to deal with the pandemic.
She said: “You don’t hear of people going into war without the weapons and I feel like there is just not enough being done. I understand that the government are trying but they need to find novel ways, we can’t just rely on foreign exports anymore.”
“We can’t rely on that anymore, as a government we need to change the way we’ve been handling things.”
On Sunday, the government announced they would provide more PPE for the NHS who are fighting the deadly virus on the front line.
A Department for Health and Social Care spokesperson said the government is doing its best to protect the NHS workers as it already has delivered almost a billion pieces of PPE around the country.
