It has been reported recently that Harry Styles will be acting as a gay police officer set in the times of 1950 and 1990.
The LGBT drama is called My Policeman and will star former One Direction member Harry Styles and The Crown actress Emma Corrin.
Harry Styles will be playing Tom Burgess, a police officer who has an ongoing affair with a museum curator in the film.
Emma Corrin will be playing as Tom Burgess’ wife.
It is said that the performer will turn blonde in order to fulfill his role. The actor who will be playing the museum curator will be David Dawson, also known as a star in The Last Kingdom. Dawson will play the role of Patrick Hazelwood, the man who is in an affair with Tom Burgess.
Older versions of the characters will be played by Rupert Everett, who will be Patrick, and Linus Roache, who will take over as Harry’s role.
The film is set in Brighton during the late 1950s, and is based on a Bethan Roberts’ novel where Styles’ character chose to marry a schoolteacher due to the societal expectations to live a heteronormative life.
Although he marries a schoolteacher, Tom and Patrick spark a passionate relationship after meeting at the Brighton Museum. It is controversial because during the time that the film is set, homosexuality was illegal.
The novel delves into the 1950s setting and its criminalization of homosexuality.
Lily James had been considered for the part of Tom’s wife, but Emma Corrin took over the role. She will be playing Marion, alongside actress Gina McKee who will take her role over as the older version of Marion.
The film will be adapted by Ron Nyswaner and Amazon is working with Berlanti Schecter Productions. The general public is looking forward to the new film.
