A 22-year-old Fort Hood soldier has passed away after being rammed by a car while directing traffic at the scene of an accident close to the military base.
Spc. Cole Jakob Aton was directing traffic in Killeen, just a few miles from the military installation where he was stationed, when a driver rammed into him with their car on August 12.
As of this writing, no charges have been filed against the driver who allegedly didn’t see the soldier as they crossed an Interstate 14 overpass. The case is still being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
According to the reports, it isn’t clear whether Aton, who served as a missile operator with the 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, was involved in the accident after which he helped direct the traffic or not.
Following the tragic collision in which the unnamed driver rammed into the soldier, the 22-year-old succumbed to his injuries.

Aton is one of eleven Fort Hood soldiers that have recently passed away. Out of 11 cases, five are suspected of involving foul play.
One of these cases involved the death of 20-year-old Vanessa Guillen who was found dismembered after opening up about the harassment she was subjected to at the military base.
Prior to his death, Aton often took to social media to share various calls for action and petitions to have the mysterious deaths at the base investigated.
