Foster parenting is a noble act of love and also a great responsibility.
But sadly, there are some abusive foster parents out there who are basically in it for the money.
The average foster parent gets $713 per month for taking care of a child. Knowing this, some adults take on a foster child just to get the extra money. Their greed only hurts the children who so desperately need love and care from an adult figure.
In the video below, a foster mother explicitly discriminates against the foster son. She makes it clear that she thinks of fostering as a job and shows that she doesn’t actually have the son’s best interests in mind at all.

In this social experiment by What Would You Do?, the foster mother (a hired actor) clearly favors her biological daughter over her foster son (both children also hired actors) at the restaurant. She says to her biological daughter, “you can get whatever you like; you are my REAL daughter,” but limits her foster son from having a meal that exceeds four dollars, because “he’s on a budget.”
Even in this irrational and hurtful situation, people around them — people like you and me — become heroes to help the kid. As the foster mother keeps saying that she just took the foster kid for the money, one onlooker reminds her that the boy deserves better:
“He’s not money. He’s a person.”

Below is the video of the experiment. Luckily, everything that happens at the table is staged, but we should still be aware that situations like these actually happen. The kindhearted diners who stepped in for the little boy prove that there’s still hope in humanity. They are also a reminder that we should do what we can whenever we see injustices, especially toward children.
