Four-year-old Called 999 And Said, ‘Mummy Can’t Breathe’ After Her Mother Suffered An Asthma Attack


A four-year-old daughter saved her mother’s life by calling 999 after she suffered an asthma attack at her home in Southampton, Hampshire.

Katie Humphires suffered a severe asthma attack while playing with her four-year-old daughter, Faye.

She told her daughter, “Mummy needs help”, and the four-year-old called 999 and managed to save her mother’s life.

Faye called 999 to ask for an ambulance and remained calm. Ms. Humphries suffered another asthma attack when the paramedics arrived.

The 32-year-old needed an adrenaline injection and was taken to a hospital. Her four-year-old daughter managed to save her life, thanks to her quick thinking.

Ms. Humphries later told PA: “She said ‘Mummy can’t breathe’, they asked how old I was, she couldn’t answer how old, they then asked what is my name and she answered ‘Mummy Humphries’.”

“They stayed on the phone with her all the time and she let the paramedics in. She was so calm for a four-year-old.”

She praised her little girl for saving her life and said she wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for her.

Ms. Humphries said she felt numb and was unable to breathe after suffering the asthma attack but thanks to her daughter who called 999 on time.

She said it was the worst asthma attack she’s had and she is so grateful to be alive.

Ms. Humphries said: “If it wasn’t for her, I do not think I would be here now because I couldn’t get my breath, my chest was getting tighter and tighter, my hands and feet were tingly.”

“It was really the worst asthma attack I’ve had.”

When she came back home from the hospital, her daughter asked her if she is going to get in trouble for calling 999 because Ms. Humphries always told her not to call 999.

But this time, she told her daughter that she did the right thing and people can call 999 in case of an emergency.
