The White House is demanding an apology from Fox News after host Rachel Campos-Duffy said that first lady Jill Biden failed the country by letting her husband Joe Biden run for president.
Jill Biden’s press secretary Michael La Rosa took to Twitter and wrote: “This is disgusting. @RCampusDuffy and @FoxNews know better. They can do better and their viewers deserve better.
“I hope they’ll apologize to the First Lady and leave this kind of talk in the (trash) where it belongs.”
During a segment on Sunday, Campos-Duffy seemed to blame Mrs. Biden for the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan following the takeover by the Taliban.
“When you look at what’s hurting America, when you look at this lack of leadership, and you wonder who is responsible for putting someone this incompetent and frankly this mentally frail in this position?” Campos-Duffy said.
“As a political spouse, I can’t help but look at Jill Biden.”
Campos-Duffy’s husband is former Wisconsin Rep. Sean Duffy, who served in Congress before joining the network.
Referencing Mrs. Biden’s doctorate in education, Campos-Duffy said: “No one knew better his state of mind than Jill.
“And if you ask me, the most patriotic thing Jill Biden could have done was tell her husband – to love her husband – and not let him run in this mental state that he’s in. I think she failed the country as well.”
According to a recent poll by Rasmussen Reports, a majority of Americans may agree with Campos-Duffy’s assessment of the president’s mental health.
Biden, 78, is the oldest president sworn into office. Concerns over his physical and mental health for the role plagued his campaign.
Rasmussen Reports’ poll data also showed that 51 percent of voters believe other people are making decisions for the president.
