One year after asking Pope Francis to allow him to quit the priesthood, Fox News priest Jonathan Morris is now engaged!
The 47-year-old proposed to ABC News producer, 37-year-old Kaitlyn Former, and they are expected to tie the knot at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City.
Morris, who regretted ‘not being able to marry and have a family,’ asked Pope Francis to let him quit the priesthood.
In an interview with Daily Mail, Morris shared how he met his fiancée and described his excitement to finally have a family.
“Last year, after much discernment, I left the priesthood, and expressed very publicly then, that I was doing so with the hope of love, marriage, and family,” he shared.
“Soon after, Kaitlyn and I went to lunch. One month later, we went to dinner. Every day since, we have seen each other or spoken by phone.
“In November of last year Pope Francis gave me the final dispensation from my vows and encouraged me to live my faith publicly as a lay person.”
He continued: “I see all of this – including my 17 years as a priest – as an amazing blessing from God. I just can’t wait to marry Kaitlyn and be with her for the rest of my life. I will continue to express my faith in God and my love for the Church in this new chapter of my life.”
A Fox News insider also told Daily Mail that the engagement quickly became the ‘talk of the town.’
“Just over a year ago he announced he was leaving the priesthood and now he is engaged to be married,” the source said. “He’s such a nice man, and Kaitlyn is quite the lady.”
An ABC News insider also said: “It’s nice to see them so happy. Everyone is excited for Kaitlyn.”
