Male fraudsters are dressing up as women, wearing fake breasts and fake skin to fool men on live chats before blackmailing victims for huge sums of money.
Scammers in China have been pretending to be women to trick unsuspecting men into exposing themselves on camera.
After the victims take part in live nude chats, they will be told that their faces and private parts have been filmed.
Swindlers will then demand a huge sum of payment if they don’t want the videos to be exposed.
Men in China are now being urged by police to be more vigilant when using online forums and chat rooms.
Authorities also shared a video on the Chinese social media network Weibo with a message: “Boys, don’t chat nude.”
In the video, officers explain how scammers use women’s clothes and prosthetics to trick men into showing their bodies on camera.
One of the cops is photographed wearing a bra and underwear before removing the fake skin, revealing his male chest.
The clip then cuts to a video of two men holding ‘fake skin’ disguises.
“You think what you think is what you think?” a female cop can be heard in the background.
The officer added: “Boys, don’t chat nude. It’s fraud.”
According to reports, fraudsters spend weeks chatting with their victims before encouraging them to remove their clothes.
The scam has become increasingly prevalent in China during the pandemic.
In the first six months of 2020, the Guangdong Public Security Department received more than 9,000 complaints of blackmail relating to ‘nude chats.’
Police have identified 10 blackmail gangs, with more than 80 offenders having been taken into custody.
According to reports, at least 2,000 victims have been identified and more than $2.8 million has been extorted by the swindlers.
