Life is simply different as a redhead.
You stand out. You’re often the butt of jokes. The same is true for those with lots of freckles – blending in is simply not an option.
While this type of ridicule typically only happens during childhood and adolescence, sometimes it doesn’t stop.
That’s why photographer Brock Elbank set out to end the teasing. He started a project with one clear mission: to show the world the beauty of freckles.

Elbank has been taking stunning photographs of men, women, and children with a large amount of freckles on their face and body. He wants to teach people that standing out from the crowd is not something to be ashamed of – it’s a gift.
Having an extraordinary amount of freckles is not something we see often. Elbank wants to capture the incredible beauty of freckles to teach us to treasure the uncommon.

“I get more emails saying how much people have struggled with freckles as a child…” Elbank told BBC News. “I never understood why people don’t like them. I love unusual. So many people just blend in… I like people that stand out. The more individual, the better…”
