Hugging is a gesture of expressing love.
We hug people who we are in love with. Be it our friends, our partners, our colleagues, or our parents. But not everyone is lucky enough to receive a hug from their parents each day.
When Scott Dittman heard his friend Denna was going to offer free mom hugs at Pittsburgh Pride he could not keep himself away. It is an organization that works in order to support people from the LGBT community.
Scott says he never wakes up thinking of himself as a person of LGBT alley but just a human being. But this time it was different. He woke up, dived into Amazon and ordered a t-shirt of free dad hugs for himself.
He then wore the T-shirt to the event and what he witnessed and experienced was beyond his expectations.
He went there to offer free dad hugs and the first person to come to him was a young girl who kept looking at him for a while then gave him a bear hug.
Another was a guy who came in with his eyes wet. He started crying then and said that his parents disowned him when he was just 19 because he came out.
The people were not the only ones that received joy but it brought a great difference to Scott too. He said that he was deeply touched with all the love and joy that was going around him.
He said “I was saddened by the simplest thing when I looked at these people. They were starving for a hug from their fathers. This really broke my heart but again, I was happy to give them the little joy that I could.”
He then came back home and shared the pictures from the day on his Facebook page making people realize how important it is to be there for their kids.
