High school is a great place. We meet people, we make friends, and we live a huge part of our lives in that place and leaving behind all that is a little tough.
So to mark the end of the high school life and as a welcome to the new phase of life, the school organizes prom night with great pomp and show.
It becomes a night to remember for a lifetime. For the same each year, students have to buy expensive outfits because no one wants to go to their prom in rags.
That is why Dallas Public Library came up with a great plan and decided to give away prom dress to the high schoolers to celebrate their big day.
The library started this initiative back in 2014 with a perspective of students being able to save the money they were going to send on their prom dress.
The library had set up two outlets in the city of Texas with rows full of dresses. Students were asked to go in there and hunt for the right dress for themselves. All the dresses in the event were donated by stores or other people. Most of the outfits were new or just a little used.
Library’s Communication and Youth Service Administrator, Melissa Dease said “We were a little scared that we might not be able to collect enough dresses for all the students but it came out to be completely different. We received so many dresses that we fell short of racks to hold them.”
She added “The Fairy Tale closet event is not just another event, for us, it is a measure we are taking to make students comfortable with the library.
We want the students to be able to feel safe in the library and with this, we are establishing a relationship. This also helps the students to understand and make use of the resources of the library.”
The dresses were not the only things the library had in stock but they were also giving away foot wares and accessories.
