In the animal kingdom, male members of the species often rely on colorful displays of dance, contests of strength, or even bouts of aggression, all in hopes of attracting a female they’re hoping to mate with. The theory is that these displays show just how strong and capable the male is and therefore, prove that he is rightly capable of giving the female the best offspring possible.
When it comes to humans, we’ve largely evolved beyond such crude displays of prowess, relying instead on Tinder and more subtle means to attract members of the opposite sex. At least, for the most part.
But one video has emerged that shows two friends on the beach who apparently decided to put on a show for two sunbathing women that they were presumably attracted to.
The video starts with the pair approaching the girls as they are relaxing on a beach that is thought to be in the US.
The guys ready themselves and then just as one of the girls takes note of them when they stopped in front of her, they raise their arms in unison. They then execute an impressive backflip, turning in mid-air towards a landing that is equally meant to impress because they form themselves up in their best “come hither” pose.
The guys exhale with a loud “Ha!” and start to get up. The girl who initially noticed them sits up in bemusement and looks over to her friend. However, her friend looked to be asleep and missed the whole thing. Either that or she was totally unimpressed.
Interestingly enough, the Bird of Paradise also has a similar routine it uses when trying to attract a potential mate. BBC’s Planet Earth did a good job making this bird famous as they parade in their bright colors, ruffle their feathers, and sing in an effort to impress.
The men in the video have certainly taken mating displays to a whole new level but it’s unclear if they succeeded. To be fair, at least one of the girls did seem to react favorably although that would leave one of the men having to look for another girl to put on a display for.
