When a mother, Rachel Jobling, heard nurses and healthcare professionals had developed blisters behind their ears by wearing masks throughout the day, the mother wanted to help them by doing something.
So, she came up with a pattern to protect ears, which makes wearing PPE more comfortable for frontline staff.
Rachel is running Glam Rocks Boutique, a slogan T-shirt printing firm, and working full-time for the water board. She is also a mother to 5-year-old Holly. But this does not stop her from taking out time to help others.
She noted that she saw a post in a group on Facebook about nurses having to put on masks for thirteen-hour shifts as well as getting blisters. To Rachel, this sounded horrific and she decided to do something about it.
As a result, she came up with the idea of making ear defenders, which makes wearing protective masks more comfortable. She added that at first, she made them from document folders but then found a template from an American designer.
Then, Rachel began producing them and has made 400+ pieces that she has delivered to nurses working in different parts of the country. This has added her name to the list of community heroes who are delivering impressive acts of kindness in this fight against coronavirus.
Rachel is now working throughout the day to fulfill all her responsibilities. She revealed that she is doing her normal 9-5 job during the day, then she puts her little daughter to bed. After that Rachel takes a shower and then cracks on with her T-shirt-making as well as cutting the increased number of ear protectors for NHS workers.
She added that her slogan T-shirt business has boomed since they have been staying home. She said that she could not complain and has triple the number of her usual orders.
