According to the HBO series Game of Thrones and Martin’s writings, the Targaryens ruled over Westeros for centuries before Robert lead a rebellion putting the House Baratheon on the throne. The story of the original series starts after this event.

The House Targaryen project has actually been in pipeline at HBO since last fall.

It is reportedly going to be an improved version of the project Game of Thrones for which writer/producer Bryan Cogman was hired.

If you happen to be a follower of Martin’s blog, the House Targaryen series might not be a surprise for you as he teased a Targaryen show on his blog back in May.

On the website named Not a Blog, Martin said two shows are in the ‘script stage’ and both of them are ‘edging closer,’ hinting that one of the series will be based on the House Targaryen.

His blog post said: “What are they about? I cannot say. But maybe some of you should pick up a copy of FIRE & BLOOD and come up with your own theories.”

Fire and Blood is a complementary book to the original book series, A Song of Ice and Fire. It is based on the origin, evolution and end of the House Targaryen and starts at 300 years before the story of Game of Thrones.

Fire and Blood, released in November 2018, shows how the family of Dragon Lords acquired the area of Dragonstone following the civil war known as the Dance of Dragons.

This ‘Dance’ is reportedly going to be the biggest part of the coming series.
