The feds have warned the Chicago Police Department after gathering intelligence that suggests notorious gangs are plotting to kill cops on sight and film the shootings.
As ABC7 reported, the FBI issued an alert suggesting that nearly thirty violent gangs in the city have been plotting to shoot cops on sight and share videos of the shootings online “in order to garner national media attention.”
According to the news outlet, the FBI warning stated that “members of these gang factions have been actively searching for, and filming, police officers in performance of their official duties.”
The gangs have allegedly also made a pact to “catch on film an officer drawing his/her weapon on any subject” before gunning the cop down “in order to garner national media attention.”
The dire alert follows as Chicago has recorded a significant surge of violent crimes. According to the reports, more than five hundred people have already been murdered in the city this year alone.
As ABC7 also reported, the FBI intelligence derives from “a contact whose reporting is limited and whose reliability cannot be determined,” meaning that the plot cannot be confirmed with certainty.
Following the “situational information report” presented by the feds, the Chicago Police have informed DailyMail.com that they are taking the warning seriously and taking “all necessary measures” to protect their officers.
“We have been made aware of this threat by a law enforcement partner,” a spokesperson of the Department told DailyMail.com
“The Chicago Police Department takes all threats against officer safety seriously and we will take all necessary measures to safeguard our officers.”
