There are a few actors who live their characters to perform the best they can.
Then there are other actors who bring life to their character with their phenomenal levels of acting skills.
Only once in a life a time an actor gets an opportunity to mark his character in the gold and then the world remembers the actor through the iconic character.
For our Gary Sinise, the role of Lieutenant Dan from the movie Forrest Gump is the one that is always going to be a part of who he is.
In the movie, he played the role of a Vietnam War veteran who had an amputation because of his injuries from the war that turned him into a disabled.
The character earned him the auspicious National Commander’s Award by the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
The award that he received on August 21, 1994, was a gesture of great honor to the actor but the words inscribed on the award gave him a new perspective and aim in life.
The word said that his remarkable performance has brought back the disabled veterans and their sacrifice back in the eye of the public which they have forgotten.
This surely touched his heart the very day he read it and for the past 25 years he has been working to make the lives of the disabled veterans of America’s and their family’s better.
For these 25 years, he has worked in association with the DAV which an NPO that works for the disabled veterans of the US Army.
The Gary Sinise Foundation said that for the past 25 years he has given in a lot of efforts including being the speaker for the DAV as they were working on building a Life Memorial for American Veterans Disabled which is in Washington D.C.
Earlier this month, DAV celebrated their 98th convention and with them, Gary Sinise celebrated 25 years of his service for the group.
